Bosphorus Tour in Istanbul on a Private Guided Bosphorus Cruise Tour

Istanbul is the only city that is on two continents and between two seas. The Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea are the two seas that it is between. The Bosphorus, which separates the Asian and European sides of Istanbul, is a strait that runs about 31 kilometers from the south to the north of the city. In the towns along the Bosphorus, you can see a lot of old buildings, like palaces, mosques, and churches.

The Bosphorus is one of the best things about Istanbul. Even people who live there go to cafes, restaurants, or fish there. We suggest taking a two-hour Bosphorus cruise on a public boat that leaves the Golden Horn every hour. After the cruise, you can also go to:

The Bosphorus Cruise: The strait between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara is about 32 km long and splits Istanbul into two continents. Along the Bosphorus, there are a lot of places to live and see, like big palaces, hotels, yali (private houses), and so on.

While you are on the boat, you will see the best parts of the Bosphorus, such as the Dolmabahce Palace, Ortakoy Mosque, Ciragan Palace, Bosphorus Bridge, Rumeli Fortress, Kücüksu Palace, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge (the second bridge on the Bosphorus), and the Maidens' Tower, to name a few.

The Ottoman Sultan Abdulmejid built the Dolmabahce Palace between 1843 and 1856 as a place for the Ottoman royal family to live. Armenian architects Garabet Balyan, Nigogayos Balyan, and Evans Kalfa made the plans for the palace. There are 285 rooms, 6 baths, and 46 halls in the Dolmabahce Palace.

Taksim Square and Istiklal Street: For most people who live in Istanbul, Taksim Square, and Istiklal Street are the hearts of the city. Cafes and restaurants line the pedestrian-only street. From Taksim Square to the Galata Tower, which is 1.44 km away, the street goes 0.87 miles.

The Spice Market (Egyptian Bazaar) was built between 1660 and 1665 by Turhan Hatice, the mother of Sultan Mehmed IV. The market is where most of Istanbul's spices are bought and sold. You can also find sweets like Turkish Delights and Baklava there, as well as gifts.

Every Monday, the Dolmabahce Palace is closed. Galata Tower will be replaced.

This was exactly what I wanted: a Bosphorus cruise with a private guide, but not the “private yacht” version. The team was super helpful during booking, very responsive on WhatsApp, and after confirmation they sent the invoice and full instructions immediately, which made us feel confident. The guide met us at the hotel lobby and handled transport and timing smoothly. On the cruise, the guide gave quick explanations about the landmarks as we passed, which made it more meaningful than just taking photos. After the cruise we walked and explored, including Istiklal Street, and ended with the Spice Market. I loved that the day felt flexible, like we could pause for photos or a quick tea break without messing up the schedule.

Great experience from start to finish, and I want to mention the communication because it really matters. We had a few questions before booking and they answered fast, then WhatsApp made everything simple. Tour was confirmed quickly and the invoice was sent right away, no back-and-forth. The tour itself was a nice mix of views and city time: the Bosphorus cruise was beautiful and the guide helped us understand what we were seeing along the shoreline, then we did a good walk through central areas afterward. Spice Market was a fun stop too. Everything flowed well and didn’t feel rushed.

Booked the Private Guided Bosphorus Cruise Tour because wanted to experience the Bosphorus properly, not just “hop on a boat and hope for the best.” The best part was having a guide who knew exactly where to go, when to go, and what we were looking at. Met at my hotel lobby and used public transport, which saved time and felt very local. The cruise itself was beautiful and relaxing. Seeing the palaces, bridges, and waterfront mansions from the water is a totally different perspective, and the guide pointed things out as I passed, so it felt like a moving history lesson but in a fun, casual way. After the cruise, Continued with a city walk and ended up around Taksim and Istiklal. It was a nice mix: water views first, then energy of the city. Also stopped at the Spice Market which was honestly a highlight for me. The guide helped to choose a few things without feeling pressured and explained what’s actually local vs. touristy. Overall it felt well-paced, easy, and very “Istanbul.”
