The Old City Tour of Istanbul

Private Guided Istanbul Tour – Old City Tour of Istanbul
The Roman Empire ruled from 330 to 395, the Byzantine Empire from 395 to 1204 and again from 1261 to 1453, the Latin Empire from 1204 to 1261, and the Ottoman Empire from 1453 to 1922.

Constantine the Great founded Istanbul. He called it Constantinople, which means "the city of Constantine," and made it the new capital of the Roman Empire. Istanbul has always been a very important city because it is in the middle of both Europe and Asia. Istanbul is on the Unesco World Heritage List because it has so many Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman relics.

The whole city is like a big open-air museum. With all of its differences, such as its mosques, palaces, churches, synagogues, modernity, and history, Istanbul is one of the most interesting cities in the world. We can give you a private tour of Istanbul with a guide so you can see all of these things for yourself. During the Istanbul Old City Tour, you visit:

The Hippodrome is an ancient U-shaped stadium where 100,000 people watched chariot races. Even though the Hippodrome lost most of its seats, walls, and other things, the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpent Column, and the Constantine Columns are still there.

ブルーモスク was built by Sultan Ahmet between 1609 and 1616. It was a mosque for the Ottoman sultan. Even though its official name is Sultanahmet Mosque, travelers called it the Blue Mosque because of the blue tiles inside.

The Topkapi Palace was once the center of the Ottoman Empire. It was a place where people lived and where important decisions were made. In the 1500s, Sultan Mehmet II built the palace, which then became the center of the Ottoman Empire. The Topkapi Palace has been a museum since 1924.

The Roman Emperor Justinian built アヤソフィア between 532 and 537. It is the world's largest and tallest cathedral. In the 1500s, the Ottomans turned the church into a mosque. In 1934, it was turned into a museum. Hagia Sophia stopped being a museum in July 2020. It is now back to being a mosque. Like the other mosques, you can go inside Hagia Sophia.

グランドバザール is the world's oldest and biggest working market. It has more than 4,000 shops, and 61 streets, and is fully covered. In the 1500s, Sultan Mehmet II built the Grand Bazaar. After him, other sultans added to it. If you ask, your guide will be happy to help you find your favorite piece of Turkish art.

Topkapi Palace is closed on Tuesdays. Basilica Cistern will be replaced.
The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays. Spice Bazaar will be replaced.

We did this Old City private tour as a family (two parents + two kids) and it was honestly the easiest sightseeing day we’ve had anywhere. Our guide met us at the hotel right on time, explained the plan in plain language, and kept the pace super comfortable. The Hippodrome stop was great because the kids could move around a bit while the guide told the “chariot race” story which actually grabbed their attention. Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia were the big moments for us, and the guide helped with all the practical stuff like dress code reminders and where to wait when it got busy. Topkapi was huge, but our guide kept it family-friendly and didn’t overwhelm us with information. We finished with the Grand Bazaar and it was fun, not stressful, because we had someone guiding us on where to walk and when to take a quick break. We never felt rushed, and we never felt lost. Highly recommend for families.

Great private tour for families. We were traveling with our teenage daughter and the guide kept it interesting without turning it into a history class. Smart order of visits, good photo stops, and plenty of small breaks. Grand Bazaar was a hit because our guid…詳細なレビューを読む

Did this private Old City tour on our first day and it was exactly what we needed. Our guide met us at the hotel on time, explained the plan clearly, and we started walking right away (which I actually preferred vs. sitting in traffic). The Hippodrome stop was a great warm-up because it’s outdoors and the guide used it to explain the whole Roman/Byzantine/Ottoman timeline in a simple way. Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia were the highlights for us, and we really appreciated the respectful guidance on dress code and the best times to avoid the biggest crowds. Topkapi Palace can be a lot, but with a guide it finally felt organized and meaningful instead of “just rooms.” We ended at the Grand Bazaar and the guide helped us navigate it without getting overwhelmed or pushed into shopping. It felt flexible, calm, and very well paced.
