The museum is located on Princes’ Island, the archipelago’s biggest island at the Sea of Marmara. It was established by Adalar Municipality and the local foundation in the European Capital of Culture Project’s scope and was opened on 10 September 2010.

The Museum of the Princes’ Island houses more than 6,000 photos (aerial photos) and historical information about the Princes’ Island. The museum also gives information about the biological life of the archipelago. There is a fossil of an almost 400 million years old fish species Dunkleosteus. The other exhibitions are for birds of the island, records about the islands from the ancient age authors, first life forms in the islands, early island inhabitants.
