Istanbul, as the ancient capital city of the Romans and the Ottomans, the city has many remains and traces of those civilizations, which can be seen and visited by millions of travelers today. In this half-day 4 hours tour, we have created Istanbul Historical Tour, including the Basilica Cistern and the Istanbul Archaeological Museums, with a private guide:
Basilica Cistern: located by the Hagia Sophia, built by the Roman Emperor Justinian in the 6th century as an underground water reservoir. The cistern is 138 meters by 65 meters and about 9,800 square meters in area. It serves as a museum, and the most remarkable subjects rather than columns, are the Medusa heads which are upside and right-side down as marble bases.
Istanbul Archaeological Museums: Osman Hamdi Bey established the first museum of Turkey in 1880. As a complex museum consisting of three main units. The Museum’s exhibition halls are Thrakia, Bithynia, Greek, Byzantium, Roman, and the Ottoman.
